35::132 - Pinhole of a prism

A long time ago I took a Nikon body cap an drilled a big hole in it with a dremel tool. Then I cut open an aluminum can and taped part of it over the hole. Then i poked a hole in it with a sewing needle. This created a very tiny aperture. This is how you make a pinhole camera. The aperture was too small though, not enough light was coming through, and you could tell it wasn't circular. Finding something only slightly larger than a sewing needle was difficult, so today I decided to just push a thumb tack through it. This created a very nice round hole, but it was too large to make a very clear image. In any case, this is a photo I took using a piece of an aluminum can as a lens on my D800. Maybe next I'll dry tin foil, that's supposed to work well.

Tonight I got together with my friend Nathan for the first time in forever. We passed through Rickhouse on our way around downtown and had a sip of Ardbeg Corryvreckan. I hadn't been to Rickhouse since I had my D3s, so it was interesting to see how well the low light performance of the D800 compared. I think it did spectacularly, and although I really love the D3s, I gotta say I think the D800 is better overall.

I'd been throwing around the idea of picking up a f/1.2 lens, but the thought of having another MF lens wasn't all that awesome. My friend Dan picked up the Canon 50mm f/1.2L AF and after looking at how great the images were I thought I'd finally pick one up, so I found this pre-AI Nikkor 55mm f/1.2 S•C on CL. It just barely fits on my D800, but I'll have to have it converted in order for it to function well. It's too bad that Canon is the only manufacturer who makes f/1.2 AF lenses.

I've been looking for work and interviewing for the last week or so, which is sometimes more stressful than it seems like it would be. Tien and I decided to go out to the old neighborhood and chow down on some delicious not so healthy food, one of our favorites, Golden Boy Pizza.
