One year ago today I got my Canon T3i. I gave Canon a good, serious shot, but towards the end I felt it was crippling me creatively and I switched back to Nikon. A lot of talk goes into the Canon vs Nikon debate, but in the end, when you look at any photo you can't tell what brand of camera made it, so I say use your preferred tool and let others do the same.

Mt. Hamilton is a poor destination for a picnic. You're not allowed to park anywhere but a few trailheads, and there are mostly open meadows with few trees that aren't on the side of a steep hill, which makes for poor picnicking.
