Tien and I went on a tour today and this was the second island we visited. Tien rode an ostrich, we saw a bear ride a bicycle and a motorbike, and we went swimming in some the water even though it was a bit chilly. The problem though was that it wasn't an island at all, as you can see by the map.

They've been married for 5 years, but America still won't let her into the country. He came back for her interview at the consulate hoping she'd come back to America with him, but with no specific reason (which is typical) they said they couldn't give her a visa yet, so once again she's left behind as he heads back to the USA, on Christmas Eve no less.

The boat ride out to Phu Quoc was so turbulent that many people on board were throwing up repeatedly for more than an hour. Tien didn't fare quite that bad, but also was seasick, so we decided to fly back to the mainland.

We rode down to Bai Sao today and found it almost unrecognizable as the placid paradise we discovered a year and a half ago. The wind was strong, the waves were large, the ocean was upset, and the beach had been reshaped into a short, steep drop directly down to the water. Apparently we had hit it at the perfect season last time. Still, it was gorgeous and we had a good time.
It was my joke this year that our white Christmas would involve white sandy beaches, but it was true!

Tien and I arrived at Phu Quoc today. We checked into our old hotel, took a nap and went shopping. We ended up at the night market for dinner. This was taken where the night market street ends at the river.

We missed the boat to Phu Quoc by 5 minutes, so we spent the night in Rach Gia.
This could be a scene from nearly any Vietnamese pop song. They're all sad and heartbroken.
