36::7 - Photo code

Speaking of photo processing workflow, here's the only photo I took on Jan 16th: a snip of some of the code that pre-processes my photos when I plug in my cameras or phone or whatever various other photo devices to my computer. This helps me merge photos from all of my various cameras and devices into Lightroom in a way where I can verify uniqueness in the case of disaster recovery or when duplicates somehow creep in. Regarding duplicates, I use ZFS with deduplication on the backup side of things so even if duplicates interfere with my photo workflow, they don't take up much more room on my disks.

Starting another 365 project and digging into photos that are nearly two months old has renewed my happiness that I took the time to learn to code. Organizing photos would take an unsurmountable amount of time if I hadn't automated so much of my workflow. I highly recommend that everybody who does not know how to make computers do things for them take the time to learn how to do so. Even knowing just a little bit about programming goes a long way. Check out Code Academy if you are looking for a free, easy intro into making your computer work for you so you can get back to working on things you love, like taking photos.
